Antique American Plains Indian Lance. :
$995.00

This is a nice offering of a rare, authentic 19th century American Plains Indian lance mid 1800\'s. The blade is hammered forged steel and has sinew and hide with a piece of sinew sewn red wool wrapped around the long horse hair drop dangling from an old strip of leather. The blade stem is wrapped in hide with buffalo hair ornamentation. There are a few tiny beads on strands of sinew left on the red cloth, most have fallen off. This classically designed 19th century plains Indian lance is 6 feet and two inches long from tip to end with a blacksmith made, 8-1/2 inch blade used as a point, wood probably ash or alder, very strong. The wood pole has carved rings spaced about 12 inches apart that look like they were intended for more decorations to be attached. Blade stem is wrapped in hide with buffalo hair ornamentation and a long horse hair drop.\"....it was made to pierce an enemy or thrust into the vitals of a running buffalo from the back of a horse.\" In the movies the lance was more of a weapon of war than of the hunt.\"Condition: Good, with modern repairs to hide wrap and area where the blade stem meets the wood. Sinew is dry, hide wrapping has cracked and separated in areas. Blade tip has been broken off sometime during it\'s period of use. Wood is old and dry as well as the hide wrap and sinew, it\'s all still pretty solid but wouldn\'t stand up to a buffalo hunt these days.Shipping: Due to the long size Fed Ex is the only possible way to ship item. Fed ex ground will cost $280
