This is a new (open-box) 2U ATXIP-SAN/iSCSI RAID server with 12 -500GB Seagate ST3500631NS 16MB buffer 7200rpm SATA II (300Mbs) hard drives with Native Command Queueing. These drives are designed for high performance and have superior reliability for 24/7 RAID environments. It has a TYAN (also known for reliability)I7520 motherboard (specifications on this link It has 2 - 1GB ECC PC2700 DDR dimms (one pictured has only 2, but I will upgrade it to 4). It is upgradeableto 16gb ram. It has a 3ware PCI-X Escalade 9550s-12 12 port SATARAID controller withbattery backup unit and 128mb so-dimm read/write buffer (link of RAIDs 0,1,10,5, 50, Single Disk (JBOD)0,1,10,5, 50, Single Disk (JBOD). I have included a screenshot of a SiSoft Sandra Physical disk benchmark. I setup the benchmark with 3 of the 12 -500GB drives in aRAID 0. As you can see from the benchmark thisRAID array isextremely fast. You can set theRAID array up however you would like though (redundancy/performance or both). You can even setup mutiple combinations of arrays accross any of the 12 disks.Theprocessor isdual low-voltage 2.8Ghz Xeons with hyper-threading. The one pictured has 1 installed, I will upgrade to dual. The fan tray has 8 fans, 3 - dual and 2 - single. It has 2 -500 wattredundant hot-swapable power-supplies. The drives are also hot-swapable, however you need to be running them in a raid 5 or 50 for data to be rebuilt. The motherboard has 2 usb 2.0 connectors, 2 - 10/100/1000 ethernet ports, keyboard and mouse ports, 1 serial port,and an integrated vga port (ati rage graphics). On the motherboard itself, it has 2 parallel ata ports, 1 floppy port, 2 SATA 150Mbps adaptec RAIDports (unused), 1 proprietary Taro so-dimm slot, the pci-x riser card has 3 pci-x slots (one of which is used by the3ware controller). There is no operating system included. I personallyuse oneat home as a Media Huband have installed Windows XP Professional 64-bitEdition (processors are 64-bit capable) on a notebook drive and placedit inside the chassis . The rail kit is included.The lid is lockable.The box weighs close to 80 pounds (hence the shipping charge).The unit itself weighs around 60 pounds.

I have completed a functional test and 24 hour burn-in on this unit (hence open-box). It runs flawlessly.

This serverretails for well over $4000.

Couplenotes: If you plan on installing Windows,there is a limitation of 2 Terabytes perlogical disk. For instance, if you do a raid 0 (for performance), you will need to create 3 - 2 Terabyte raid 0 arrays (4 disks each).
