Check for the version of the kernel package Detailed Explanation for this Vulnerability Assessment The remote host is missing the patch for the advisory FEDORA-2005-1138 (kernel). The kernel package contains the Linux kernel (vmlinuz), the core of any Linux operating system. The kernel handles the basic functions of the operating system: memory allocation, process allocation, device input and output, etc. Update Information: This update fixes several minor security related issues. A problem was discovered where users could reprogram keys, leaving 'traps' for the next user of a console. The ability has been restricted to root. A 32 bit integer overflow was discovered in the invalidate_inode_pages2() function which could lead to a local denial of service attack.
